Mexico Destination Wedding Photographer | My Personal Photos!

As many of you know who follow my blog, in March I went to Cancun, Mexico to photograph the lovely wedding of Shelby & Jeff I did however do a little vacationing after the wedding…well 7 days more actually with my hubby! It was our first week long vacation since our honeymoon over 5 years ago. So this blog post will be some of the personal photos I took while down in Mexico. I thought it would be fun to share just a few of my favorites! This first set of photos were taken on the beach around our resort. We stayed at a smaller resort which was nice, the Fiesta Americana Club, Cancun. I have to admit that much of our time was spent on our resorts beach by a grass hut, sipping yummy drinks while reading books We have a 3 and 1 year old, so for us doing nothing was like a dream vacation. However, while down there we did want to explore a little bit! One of the things we did is take a day trip to Chichen Itza. It was well worth the 3 hour bus ride one way! Chichen Itza is the ancient ruins of the Mayan people. On the way to Chichen Itza we stopped at what looked like a little hole in the wall place…but it was actually the Suytun Centotes. You walk down this long gravel path and down a long set of stairs to a cave. Inside there is a beautiful spring of fresh water. The Mayan people use to build their villages around these fresh water cenotes to raise their family and grow crops.On our way back this sweet Mayan woman was making fresh white corn tortilla’s with black beans. I think I ate three of them they were so good!After some yummy lunch at a local restaurant we finally made it to Chichen Itza! If you ever visit Cancun or the Yucatan Peninsula this should definitely be on your “must see” list! Our guide was so great at explaining how the Mayan people constructed this village and the reasoning and position with everything. It was so interesting to say the least. There were many Mayan descendants who where allowed inside of the city to sell their neat crafts along the roadside.The day before we were set to leave for home we went deep sea fishing! This was my husbands idea. I have to admit I was pretty nervous because of the things I’ve heard from other people and how they barfed the whole way. I was prepared though and did take some motion sickness medicine. When we first arrived to the dock I was thinking, ahh this won’t be too bad it’s not even wavy…HA! I was so wrong, it’s a 1 hour boat ride to the “deep sea” and I thought we were going tip over many times but it was SO FUN! My husband Rich and I were very lucky in that we did not get sea sick….3 other poor souls on our boat….not so much My husband caught a 40lb. Amber Jack and a Barracuda and I caught a red snapper and three trigger fish (the really pretty small fish on the dock). Deep sea fishing was a life experience I will never forget and I was pretty proud of my snapper I must say! Being we were leaving the next morning, we didn’t take my husbands 40lb. fish but we did have the captain filet my nice sized snapper up and they cooked up for us for lunch at the harbor we docked at. I’m not really a fish person but this was AMAZING! All the left over fish went to feed the crew’s family

Minneapolis Children’s Photographer | Griffin & Nolan

This morning I shot my last photo session with my BFF Shannon and her adorable boys at the Walker Art Center. It’s not our last session forever, but for a while….she’s moving 5 hours away where her husband was offered an awesome job opportunity. I’m of course SUPER sad to see her go. Her son Griffin was one of my FIRST newborn clients ever. Over the years she’s really helped me grow as a person and as a business woman. Some of you may have emailed with her about your outfit selections. She is awesome at choosing clothing as you can see below! Don’t worry she’ll still be helping with that We went to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis to take a few holiday photos before they leave in just a few short weeks for Grand Forks. I’ll Miss you guys and will count the days till we get to see each other again

“The Pose” | Minneapolis Newborn Photographer

Part of me going to Kelley Ryden & Tracy Raver’s workshop was to learn how they posed babies. Many photographers try to achieve this pose but don’t realize that it has to be done in a “safe” way. K&T are the safest people I know! I am so happy that I went to their workshop to learn their techniques but also to learn how they are exceptionally safe with each and every baby they work with. The workshop paid off. Here is my first “heads up” pose on my own after the workshop!
